It seemed like another music industry rip-off. Re-releasing an album with a few additional songs. Needless to say, I was none too pleased to hear that up-and-comer Hunter Hayes had fallen into the trap. However, unlike all those other albums with two bonus tracks, Hunter Hayes (Encore) features 6 new songs and 2 re-recorded duets almost doubling the length of the album’s first release in 2011.
Encore is a refreshing mix of radio friendly tracks of all tempos. In addition to radio hits such as “Wanted,” “Somebody’s Heartbreak,” and “Storm Warning,” Encore features tracks with tons of radio potential.
“Light Me Up” has summertime #1 hit written all over it. This fun, up-tempo track is catchy and a perfect ode to Hayes’ young teenage fans. With talks of ferris wheels and the fourth of July, this track is a shoe-in for his next radio release. It’s one of those songs you will definitely be humming throughout the summer after just one listen.
“I Want Crazy” is the first single off Encore and recently reached #1 on radio charts. An energy-packed performance of the song on the CMT Music Awards earlier this month sent the song soaring up the charts. An up-tempo jam that’s cheesy, but irresistibly wonderful.
Hunter Hayes has been on country music’s radar since the early 90’s, performing with Hank Williams Jr. while most of his peers were attending kindergarten. A child prodigy in many forms of the word, Hayes not only writes his own music, but produced his debut album and played all the instruments featured on his album (Over-achievers of America, unite!).
All-in-all, I highly recommend taking a break from your summer internet search session to take a listen to Hunter Hayes.
