Hip hop’s man of mystery DOOM and producer du jour Clams Casino team up on the typically hazy, elevated cut “Bookfiend.” Admittedly it’s not one of Casino’s strongest productions but his densely layered, inimical style is a perfect match for DOOM’s obliquely humorous, staggered rhymes. DOOM has always been known for his killer collaborations with other DJs and producers (Madvillainy and DANGERDOOM being the most prominent examples), and it’s great to hear these two unique minds come together on this skewed, cerebral work of contemporary hip hop. DOOM Casino does have an interesting ring to it, so let’s hope this won’t be the last we’ll hear of these two working together.
